Created by a member of the fourth-generation of an historic cachaça-making family and her husband, Cuca Fresca is a family owned and operated company with a passion for making exceptional quality cachaça for all to enjoy.

The idea for Cuca Fresca came when Araci Ferreira brought small batches of her family’s cachaça from Brazil for friends in New York who were unable to find anything like it on the American market. Her desire was to make superior artisanal cachaça something that was readily available to anyone who wanted to experience a spirit that Brazilians had treasured for centuries.

Along with her husband, they decided on the name “Cuca Fresca”, which literally translates to “cool head” and is a Brazilian expression meaning “to be relaxed”, because they felt it perfectly captured the essence of the experience they wanted people to have while enjoying Cuca Fresca.

In 1937, Carlos de Paula Ferreira was among the first farmers to obtain a cachaça license from the Brazilian government. Decades later, his granddaughter founded Cuca Fresca and joined forces with Aguardente Caribena Ltd, another of Brazil’s prestigious cachaça distillers, to produce a superior cachaça using artisanal methods passed down for generations. Preserving these methods was of utmost importance to both premium distillers.

Our master distillers know that excellent cachaça begins with superior quality sugarcane. For this reason, we only use organically grown sugarcane that is grown, handcut and pressed at our distillery. Our cane is never burnt during harvest, resulting in a sweeter flavor that is unaltered.

Cuca Fresca is double distilled using artisanal alambique copper stills. After the distillation is complete, each batch of Cuca Fresca rests in oak barrels to attain its uniquely smooth flavor. Pura Gold, our aged cachaça, is left in these oak barrels for a up to five years. Each bottle of Cuca Fresca is filled with cachaça from a single batch that has been triple filtered. This production method affords Cuca Fresca the ability to closely control every step of the cachaça-making process and continue to deliver a consistently premium product.

Our signature product is our Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça, a silver cachaça that is unaged. Called the “ideal slate for cocktail creativity,” Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça makes the ideal caipirinha, but its versatility also makes it the perfect base for a wide range of other cocktails.

Cuca Fresca Pura Gold is the aged variation of our signature silver cachaça and has been matured in oak barrels for up to five years. This aging process gives Pura Gold its distinctive golden color and exceptionally smooth finish.
